Ithaca

My favorite barn in Slaterville Springs

A visit to check out the Ithaca Beer Company
This place is pretty cool... bocce ball court, gardens, outdoor seating... really nice and relaxing.  I've never been one to say that I liked a specific beer but I really LOVED their Partly Sunny. Very light and refreshing... Partly Sunny is a hazy-straw colored wheat beer brewed with coriander, and generous amounts of orange and lemon zest

I loved this idea... with seating on both sides

Then we went Letterboxing. This letterbox was called "ITHACA BEER COMPANY". It turned out that the box was planted in the cemetery just across the street from our hotel!

                                                          PJ found the box

Lunch at Americana... always a nice place to have lunch or dinner

Their version of a BLT... bacon, arugula, fried green tomatoes with a roasted red pepper mayo smeared on along with their fries and homemade ketchup. It was very good.

Letterboxing in SAPSUCKER WOODS... part of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology

We always get a kick out of some of the names and descriptions of the wines...

We decided to go onto the Cornell campus to watch the sunset on the 'big hill'.

It was new student orientation. They got in groups to watch the        sunset.

This is a sculpture in the making. The heads are the last to be added!

Taughnnock Falls

Keeping with tradition, we enjoyed our salad lunch sitting outside of Lucus Winery. We love the peacefulness and the views.

We stopped along the side of the road to get some sunflower pictures

more tradition... you must stop at Purity at least once!

Sunset over Cayuga Lake from Sunset Park

Ithaca Falls on our first try. It really was too dark for pictures though. It amazes me that these waterfalls are part of the town landscape... just across the street from houses.

The next morning we went to Cascadilla Falls and back to Ithaca Falls for daylight pictures.

                                                     On to Ithaca Falls...

That's it! We had a very relaxing yet adventurous time!!! See you in December!

Ithaca in June... 2013

Our favorite barn in Slaterville Springs

Tasting Riesling before it's bottled at the Thirsty Owl Party

2 sons of the owner with a Varietal Tasting

Wine maker

tasting Merlot before it's bottled

Cayuga Lake with grape vines

Wegman's Cupcakes

The  Gorge Trail of Buttermilk Falls. Starting at the top and walking down! This is all natural!

                                                natural circles

There's tons of different waterfalls along the trail

The stone eroded around this whole huge structure from the glaciers

P.J. had to check out a cabin along the trail. I think it was built as a place to be safe in bad weather

This is our SECRET SPOT! You can start from the left, walk under or behind the falls and then slide down on the right side into a hole. The kids would do that for literally HOURS!

When you FINALLY reach the bottom, this is Buttermilk Falls. There's not much water flowing in the summer but in the spring there's TONS from the rain.
