PJ and I took a walk at Jones Beach this morning to see the aftermath of what Hurricane Earl created. We really didn't get rain here but the tides wrecked havoc.

I went down to Jones Beach this morning with Andrea to see what the beach looked like with Hurricane Earl off the coast of Long Island. There was a lot of people there but I was expecting more. We had a great time, mostly laughing at people as they ran away for the water as it would come up. These pictures have a lot of blue in them but in real life, it was mostly gray. We did have periods, short ones, where the sun came out. So far we've only had drizzle but out east in Montauk, I heard that they're getting pounded by rain. The winds are supposed to pick up later this afternoon.

Our chairs are just behind those 2 ladies. We started about 20 feet closer to the water but had to keep moving them back.

Saturday, March 13th, a day we'll always remember. We had a terrible Nor'easter come through with 67 MPH winds and gusts that registered 75 MPH at the beach! We got about 3" of rain. 3 trees fell at the other end of the block and 5 power lined snapped, 2 completely coming to the ground. Two cars were totaled in the process. We lost our power along with 1/2 of the town. All I can say is it's a good thing that we like camping because it helped us cope! Sunday morning PJ and i went around checking out the damage. Holy cow!! Parts of the town looked like a war zone. On channel 7 Eyewitness News, they referred to Wantagh as Ground Zero! I couldn't believe how many trees were down. In some areas it looked like a tornado came through because it was tree after tree... boom, boom, boom all down!

Andrea's block... A six house court... 3 trees down, one totaling a car, one blocking the exit of the court and one smashing the gas line! Andrea was evacuated and as of today, Wednesday, still hasn't returned.

One of the snapped power lines in front of the Dalton's house. I have many many more pics but I think this is more than enough. We got our power back yesterday (Tuesday). I think it's temporary. I think they hooked us up to the block behind us just to give us power. They haven't replaced any of the wires or poles so i'm thinking they'll get to that after they get everyone back with power. What a weekend!!!

Yesterday we had quite a blizzard. All of the schools closed, PJ had to be at work at 4 AM...
The morning had quite a few inches on the ground. There were nice breaks in between the snow where you could actually get your camera out without it getting wet!
PJ was able to come home at 5PM to sleep for a few hours before going back at midnight. That's his car this morning. He took my car back to work because he couldn't find a gas station open to get gas for his car!

Mike helped me get out this morning. PJ's car was plowed in and I had to get out! This will sound so not me but i had to get to my hairdresser appointment! I took some pics while going through the neighborhood. This was a few blocks away. The sun was shinning so nicely on that tree but it didn't show in the picture.
